Honey is renowned worldwide for its health and beauty benefits.Besides being the world’s most natural sweetener, honey is also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-viral. It is used widely in alternative medicine as a cure for all kinds of ailments and is considered a ‘power food’ that should be included regularly in one’s diet.

Here are some simple ways for you to include some sweet honey in your life!

Weight Loss –  A spoonful of honey mixed with warm water and a squeeze of lemon is a well known weight loss aid and great for detoxifying the body. Have it every morning as soon as you wake up and you will see the results on your skin and general well-being!

Sore Throat, Cough and Cold – A spoon of  honey and ‘ginger juice’ (grated ginger passed through a strainer) helps to soothe the throat and also reduces excess phlegm and mucus. This is a family remedy used whenever any of us are ill and really helps.

Energy – Honey is a natural source of instant energy and a great pick-me-up if you feel are feeling fatigued. Ancient Greek athletes apparently used honey regularly to enhance their performance and increase stamina. Worth a try before hitting the gym!

Skincare – Honey is used widely in natural beauty treatments around the world. Try mixing 1/2 a cup of honey with 1/2 cup of sugar and lemon juice and use this to exfoliate your face and body. This home-made scrub works wonders and is so easy to put together. I make it quite often and love the resulting soft, smooth skin!

Hair – I’ve been told that a hair mask of honey mixed with hot olive oil is great for conditioning the hair. Sounds a bit sticky to me but probably worth trying.

What are some of your favourite remedies/tips that use honey?

Great post. It should definitely be mentioned that normal, store bought honey is often made in a lab. Only real honey has all the benefits listed above. Real honey can be bought organic and raw, or local from a farmer’s market or small health food shops.

I’m glad you enjoyed the post. Thanks for the addition! I agree, raw and organic will always be more effective than store bought.
