Imagine your local farmer’s market on steroids. Borough Market is beyond that. It is where both Londoners and tourists come together to experience fresh, delicious foods from Britain and the world. It is a foodie’s paradise!!

Borough Market

My first visit to Borough Market was as a new Londoner back in 2006.  It quickly became a monthly ritual as well as a top ranked British tourist attraction whenever friends and family came to visit.

Located a stone’s throw from London Bridge station, the market’s history dates back to the 11th century when farmers once sold fresh fruit, vegetables and grains. The market has recently been renovated and now has over a 100 individual stalls still selling fresh produce as well as a delightful range of  gourmet specialties including olive oils and cheese to Italian truffles and so much more.

We went on a family foodie excursion to Borough Market this weekend and returned with bags full of decadent goodies including freshly baked breads, croissants and desserts, a selection of fine olive oils (including one infused with saffron…mmmm), the most delicious prosciutto crudo and chilli salami  AND enough cheese to open a fromagerie of our own!

Our trips to Borough Market are never complete without a stop at the infamous Brindisa for the Chorizo BBQ roll.  Another favourite is the delicious toasted cheese sandwich and Raclette at the Swiss Kappacasein stall. Wow!

If you are a Londoner and haven’t yet experienced the sights, sounds and tastes of Borough Market, then you aren’t really a Londoner! 😉

For those of you that don’t live in London, make sure you include this buzzing market in your itinerary whenever you visit.

The market does get quite crowded, especially on a sunny London weekend, so get there early to shop and binge in peace!
