The coconut palm tree isn’t called the ‘tree of life‘ for nothing. In addition to being an extremely nutritious superfood, coconut also has a number of beauty uses, specifically for skin and hair care.
Here are some ways to add some wonderful coco-nuttiness to your beauty routine!
There is nothing more hydrating and rejuvenating than fresh coconut water. Perfect for shooing off that hangover!
But, did you know that regular intake of fresh coconut water can also work wonders for your skin? High in antioxidants, coconut water is known for its anti-aging properties and can make your skin glow. Coconut water can also be used as spot treatment for cellulite, acne, eczema, wrinkles and stretch marks.
Of course, fresh coconut water is always best but a daily glass of Vita Coco never hurt anyone!
If you grew up in an Indian household, you will most certainly be familiar with the magic of Parachute hair oil 😉 This tiny blue bottle of coconut oil is a staple in many Indian homes.
Massage the coconut oil into your hair and scalp, and leave it on for a couple of hours. For best results, leave the oil on overnight (don’t forget to put a towel over your pillow!). You will see and feel the difference for yourself when you wash your hair the next morning. Weekly use is recommended for thick, luscious locks!
Parachute hair oil is easily available at your nearest Indian grocery store but a jar of coconut oil from your local health food shop will do too!
Coconut oil can also be used as a moisturizer for dry skin on hands and body and is helpful for treating dermatitis and other skin ailments. You can also melt a little coconut oil, add sugar and vanilla essence and make yourself a home-made, nourishing body scrub that smells amazing too!
Palmer’s and The Body Shop both make fantastic coconut body butters worth a try. Alternatively, you can pick up a jar of pure virgin coconut oil at your local health store.
Coconut oil can also be used for cooking and is in fact, recommended as a weight loss aid so that’s yet another reason to add this superfood to your life!
