Boom Boom Shake Shack

Yes, it is true! Shake Shack, the upscale fast food chain from the US, has crossed the big pond and opened its first London shack!

My friends in the US are constantly raving about Shake Shack burgers. I had never tried one before so couldn’t wait to see what the hype was all about.

Opened earlier this month on American Independence Day,  Shake Shack has a spectacular location in London’s busy Covent Garden Piazza Market.

Pictured here is the Shack Shack seating area in the middle of the market.

The bad news: the dreaded queue (or line!). We Brits love to queue which means that the Shake Shack queue is long and often spills out of the market on to the street.

The good news: the queue looks worse than it actually is thanks to a super quick and efficient order management process.

Hubby waited patiently in the queue while I grabbed the first table in sight. Order was placed within 20 minutes and ready for pick up in another 8 minutes. Not bad, considering we expected to be waiting for at least 45 minutes in the queue itself!

I ordered the single ShackBurger (Cheeseburger topped with lettuce, tomato and Shack Sauce), hubby went for the double SmokeShack (Cheeseburger topped with British free range Wiltshire cured smoke bacon, chopped cherry pepper and ShackSauce). We shared the Cheesy Fries and the Frozen Marshmallow Custard & Brownie with our hungry toddler!

To be honest, I expected a giant, sloppy mess and was surprised by the relatively dainty burger placed before me. One bite, and I was sold! It was as gorgeous as it looks. What I liked most was that I didn’t feel uncomfortably full after my meal – it was the perfect size.

The crinkled, cheesy fries were the right balance of crispy and gooey.  I fought my toddler for these!! Truly drool worthy!

I didn’t care for the frozen marshmallow custard too much but the boys seemed to enjoy it!

Shake Shack prides itself on its high quality food, made with premium ingredients and sold at fast food prices and they most certainly get it right!

In addition to burgers, the Shake Shack menu also includes a variety of hot dogs and shakes. The veggie option, aka Shroom Burger (Crisp fried portobello mushroom filled with melted cheese, topped with lettuce, tomato and ShackSauce) seems quite popular and looks fabulous too. I definitely  plan on ordering the Shroom Burger next time!

Loved my first Shake Shack experience and will be back for more as soon as the burger craving strikes again. Definitely the best high end fast food burger in London town!!
